iPhone SE 2020 vs iPhone XR Features Comparison

Both smartphones are in approximately equal price categories. At the same time, the iPhone SE 2020 offers the best hardware, but a small battery and an old design. The XR is more functional - it has a Face ID, perhaps a better camera and a larger battery. Let's figure out which phone is better and why.
iPhone SE 2020 vs iPhone XR Features Comparison

iPhone SE 2020 vs iPhone XR Feature Comparison

iPhone SE (2020) Feature :

  • Enclosure: glass, Gorilla Glass, IP67 water resistant

  • Processor: Apple A13 Bionic
  • Memory: 3/64 GB
  • Main camera: 12 MP, f / 1.8, OIS, 4K / 60 FPS shooting
  • Front camera: 7 MP, f / 2.2
  • Battery: 1821 mAh, fast charge, Qi wireless charging
  • Communication and connectors: Lightning, NFC, Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 5.0
  • Features: stereo speakers

iPhone XR Feature :

  • Enclosure: glass, IP67 water resistant
  • Screen: IPS, 6.1 ”, 1792 × 828, 326 ppi, 120 Hz sensor
  • Processor: Apple A12 Bionic
  • Memory: 3/64 GB
  • Main camera: 12 MP, f / 1.8, OIS, 4K / 60 FPS shooting
  • Front camera: 7 MP, f / 2.2 + 3D camera for Face ID
  • Battery: 2942 mAh + fast and wireless charging
  • Communication and connectors: Lightning, NFC, Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 5.0
  • Features: stereo speakers

Differences: processors, screens ... perhaps cameras, batteries.

Screens

Both phones are equipped with IPS screens, the resolution is adjusted to the diagonal so that the pixel density is 326 ppi. According to Apple, with such a density provides an optimal picture without unnecessary battery consumption and hardware resources. Diagonally, the screen on the XR is larger - 6.1 inches versus 4.7 inches on SE.

iPhone SE (2020):

  • White brightness: 680 cd / m2
  • Black brightness: 0.434 cd / m2
  • Contrast: 1544: 1
  • Color Accuracy: 1.4

iPhone XR:

  • White brightness: 700 cd / m2
  • Black brightness: 0.425 cd / m2
  • Contrast: 1647: 1
  • Color Accuracy: 0.6

The matrix on the XR is slightly better - it gives higher brightness and contrast, there is a better calibration, but you will not notice these differences in practice.

Battery and autonomy

The key drawback of the new iPhone SE is the 1821 mAh battery, while the XR has a higher capacity of 2942 mAh. But it's not even about the battery capacity. In iPhone SE (2020), there are problems with optimizing energy consumption, because the iPhone 8 with such a battery of the same capacity and a less energy-efficient processor lasts longer on a single charge, but it should be vice versa.

iPhone SE:

  • Conversations (screen off): 10:07 h
  • Wi-Fi Web Surfing: 13:39 h
  • Video playback: 08:56 h

iPhone XR:

  • Conversations (screen off): 15:03 h
  • Wi-Fi Web Surfing: 13:04 h
  • Video playback: 15:08 h

In all scenarios, the iPhone XR wins by a wide margin. By the way, this is one of the first "iPhones", distinguished by high autonomy.

Processors and performance: Apple A13 Bionic vs A12 Bionic

Both phones are equipped with powerful processors, but they belong to different generations. The A12 and A13 chips are made according to 7-nm manufacturing processes; they offer 2 productive and 4 energy-efficient units. To determine which is cooler, just look at the Antutu result - 417206 on the iPhone XR and 462253 on the iPhone SE (2020).

Cameras

The technical characteristics of the cameras of the two smartphones are the same - with a resolution of 12 megapixels and optics with stabilization and an aperture of F / 1.8. Specific sensor models are unknown, but they may be identical.

To compare the quality of shooting, I propose crop from the same sections of the test scene.

Under any lighting scenario, the best shooting quality of the iPhone SE (2020) is evident. Still, the new processor plays a significant role in building computational photography. For shooting it is better to take iPhone SE (2020).

Summary

Better iPhone SE (2020):

  • It's cheaper
  • Compactness
  • The best hardware
  • Better photo quality
  • +1 year software updates
  • Touch ID (fingerprint scanner) instead of Face ID

Better iPhone XR:

  • Larger screen
  • Have face id
  • Higher autonomy
  • Design ... although it is subjective
