In your opinion, how much time should pass before the new technology reaches the masses? Two years? Three? With 90 Hz screens, the situation is completely different. What a year ago only appeared in the flagships is now available on a smartphone for $ 177. This is about Realme 6. On paper, the smartphone surprises and claims to be the bestseller - what is the reality and should competitors be afraid of? Read on
Realme 6 review | Camera, Design, Processor And Battery Life
The first impression often remains the most striking and haunts throughout the time of using the device. Realme understands this and put their smartphones in neat yellow cardboard boxes.
The kit inside, by contrast, cannot be called modest. In addition to a thick silicone case and a USB Type-C cable, the box also contains a gigantic 30 W power adapter. This is generosity, isn't it? Given that even with the latest iPhone, only 18 watts of charge is included.
Still, stopping at the kit is still not worth it, let's move on to the design. Realme 6 is a massive and rather weighty smartphone, even though the back cover and frame are made of plastic. The device weighs 191 grams, which, of course, is not a record, but it is felt in the hand. In general, the smartphone is far from elegance.
Even Realme 6i with a much larger 5000 mAh battery seems less weighty offhand. At the back, the hero of today's review has an already bored “bow”: a bright gradient, a glossy surface and an elongated block of cameras in the left corner. The main 64 megapixel module is carefully placed in the orange ring and is located a little further from the other three.
At the bottom, where the gradient takes on an unusual pattern, the company logo flaunts. In general, the colors of the rear panel of Realme 6 can be compared with silk fabric, which they began to pull on themselves from below. There is only one difference from silk: glossy plastic readily collects fingerprints.
It can be seen that the manufacturers are gradually ending the idea of gradient colors. Who knows, maybe soon smartphones will finally return to their previous course and will be equipped with plain covers - personally, I will not mind. And no, the gradient doesn't make the device “more fun." Look at the color iPhones: XR, SE, 11 - are they boring?
In front, Realme 6 also does not stand out from the crowd. However, you can’t call a smartphone ugly - it has a very slender frame and no bangs ... Well, with reservations.
The frames on the sides and on the top really do not raise questions, but the chin could have been made smaller. Yes, and the bang just changed its format: now this is a hole. What is not pleasing is a small dark area around the front camera. Against a light background, this is noticeable. In general, a typical representative of the middle class is no more and no less.
Since the smartphone is equipped with an IPS-type screen, it was not possible to integrate a fingerprint scanner under the glass, and therefore Realme engineers carried it out to the side button on the right. There are no complaints about the scanner: unlocking occurs instantly, and a finger is recognized in 9 out of 10 cases.
If you do not suffer from paranoia, you can activate facial recognition to help the scanner: it’s not so safe, of course, but the chance that the smartphone refuses to open is reduced to zero. On the left side of Realme 6, separate volume keys and a SIM card slot were placed. The latter, by the way, is not hybrid and allows you to use both slots and a microSD memory card at the same time.
A surprise awaits us below - in addition to the USB Type-C connector and speaker grill, a 3.5 mm Mini Jack for headphones is hidden there. The company deserves praise for retaining the connector, because it would be much more logical for her to abandon it in order to draw attention to the Realme Buds Air headphones. But Realme decided to save on stereo speakers by installing here only one “speaker” from below.
Understood: design was clearly not a key factor in the creation of Realme 6. What then hooks up the smartphone? Well, for example, a screen. It uses a huge 6.5-inch IPS display with a resolution of 2400 × 1080 with an aspect ratio of 20: 9. Its main advantage, however, is not in the number of pixels per inch, but in the refresh rate of the picture.
The smartphone supports an increased frequency of 90 Hz - a year ago, the flagship OnePlus 7T Pro bribed a similar “chip”. You can argue about whether 90 Hz is tangible in real use or not, for a long time, but when you return to a device with a frequency below it is impossible to discomfort. In general, the increased smoothness of the display is a good thing, especially in cases where the lifetime of the smartphone does not suffer much from this.
The Realme 6 display does not disappoint in other important parameters. The colors here are extremely natural - thanks to IPS, and the viewing angles are maximum. You can fault and probably need brightness. It is not enough for comfortable work under the spring sun.
The processor is not the latest, but still productive Mediatek MT6785 Helio G90T, built using the 12-nanometer process technology. On sale there are several different configurations of a smartphone with 4, 6 or 8 GB. I also had an older version of Realme 6 on the review, also offering 128 GB of user storage. Such a bundle is enough for drawing an interface, as well as for heavy games like PUBG and Call of Duty. In the latter, however, it is better to refrain from maximum settings, so that the frame rate does not sink to uncomfortable values.
As for the shell, Realme did a serious job on it. The smartphone runs on Android 10, covered by the proprietary Realme UI 1.0. Unlike what the company did earlier, the design of the Realme 6 system aims to look like pure Android. which adds smartphone points to karma personally from me. The shell looks fresh and not overloaded at all, and smooth system animations go well with a 90 Hz screen.
The system provides several operating modes: “high performance”, “without increased productivity” and “smart mode of increased productivity”. The default is the last one and, frankly, I didn’t have a desire to switch to another. Throttling is: the smartphone heats up significantly after 15 minutes of the stress test, while resetting up to 30% of productivity.
If we summarize the hardware of Realme 6, we can say that it is suitable for games - just don’t take the version with 4 GB of RAM, obviously, there is no “airbag” that would allow the smartphone to reliably survive future updates. Realme 6 is equipped with an NFC module, which allows you to conveniently pay in stores. Finally, the company ceased to focus exclusively on Asian markets, where such a payment method is unpopular.
Realme 6 was equipped with a 4300 mAh battery, which is surely enough for a day and a half of use. After a test was carried out with the 90 Hz mode off, this gave the smartphone another 5 hours of life from a single charge. You can compare the performance of Realme 6 with other devices in our table attached above.
Particularly pleased with the ability to quickly charge and the fact that such a charge is included. The 30-watt power supply with support for VOOC technology Flash Charge 4.0 has impressive dimensions and fully justifies them, charging the smartphone from zero to 100% in 50 minutes.
Realme 6 is equipped with four camera modules, of which only two are of interest. The main camera with a resolution of 64 megapixels gives good pictures in the afternoon and frankly passes in the evening. Built-in night mode does not greatly save the situation. As for the general comments, it is worth noting the excessive sharpness, which is catching up pro-grammatically.
At the same time, the camera has a good dynamic range and excellent HDR, which quietly copes with photos against the light. The f / 1.8 aperture helps the camera slightly blur the background optically, which saves the user from questionable portrait mode - you can evaluate the effect in the first two photos. Realme 6 records 4K video with a frame rate of 30 fps, for 60 fps you need to switch to Full HD. The stabilization here is electronic and, frankly, it works mediocre.
The second camera module that is worth attention is the super wide angle. Despite the seemingly acceptable resolution of 8 megapixels, the pictures have poor detail and make an unpleasant impression. To this is added an overly active HDR, which completely deprives the photo of naturalness. The third and fourth camera modules are a 2-megapixel macro and a depth measuring sensor. Not the most useful things these days, especially considering the poor resolution of the former.
There are no complaints about the 16-megapixel front camera. It does an excellent job and is able to shoot Full HD video at a frame rate of 30 fps.
To summarize. Did Realme manage to squeeze into the dense stream of Xiaomi smartphones and compete with them? Definitely. Due to the abundance of chips, Realme 6 came out not only as a competitive, but also an original device.
The company in the shortest possible time was able to form around itself a community with which it interacts, taking into account wishes and suggestions, and this is cool. So, for example, in a box with a smartphone there was a powerful charge of 30 watts - what is not a gift to the buyer? In the new generation of devices, Realme redrawn the interface, which confused many, added the power that was requested, and surpassed itself by setting an impressive quality display.
This and a number of other chips create a favorable impression about the smartphone and about Realme as a whole as a company that has the potential for development and uses it.
