The front and back of the case are made of glass, the side frames are made of aluminum. The Home touch button with built-in Touch ID is the only way to unlock your smartphone, since TrueDepth sensors are not here. The 1334 x 750 px matrix resolution should not scare you, since the small size of SE 2 means that you are looking at the screen with the same pixel density as the iPhone 11. It is unlikely that anyone will notice individual pixels in the image, unless you press nose straight to the phone.
The text on the screen of the iPhone SE 2 looks clear, the colors are saturated and contrasting. There is a TrueTone sensor that adjusts the screen temperature to the ambient light so that the color rendition remains natural, wherever you are.
The stock of maximum brightness is inferior to the top iPhones with OLED matrices, the image fades slightly in the sun. But there are no problems with the old SE, which had to be covered by hand in order to make out at least something, the information remains readable.
Performance of Apple iPhone SE 2020
Although the new iPhone SE looks like a 2017 device, its performance is one of the best smartphones on the market. It runs on the A13 Bionic processor, which is used in the iPhone 11 / iPhone 11 Pro models. “Budget” shows comparable results in synthetic tests, and in practice it is not inferior to the top brothers: transcoding 4K video to 1080p in the iMovie application renders at the same speed as on Pro Max.
The performance here is really flagship. There is no problem launching any games from Apple Arcade and heavy applications, including for AR like Wonderscope. The system’s speed is excellent, games run without delays, and in general, with respect to the iPhone 8, the new SE works much faster.
The main advantage of iPhone CE 2 in comparison with the iPhone 8 is its longer-term support. The eight and its A11 processor are already two and a half years old, it is somewhere in the middle of its life cycle, and most likely will stop receiving updates a couple of years before the iPhone SE with its A13 Bionic. Therefore, if you want to buy the longest-playing inexpensive iPhone, it makes sense to take just the new SE. It will last you 4-5 years, which no Android device can give.

Unlike older models, the SE has only one rear camera. We don’t know exactly what kind of sensor it is, but according to the characteristics it fully corresponds to what is used in the original eight - 12 megapixels, with a six-element f / 1.8 lens and a sapphire crystal coating that protects the optics from scratches. Portrait mode sometimes encounters problems when separating thin objects from the background, such as the ends of the hair or the rim of glasses, but overall works well. It should be borne in mind that only people can be shot on SE with blur, it does not work on objects and animals.
The 7 MP front camera also got the opportunity to shoot in portrait mode, but there is no slofie feature debuted in the 11th generation and 4K video is not available, only 1080p. Selfies are good - crisp and with a nice color rendering, with a bias in warm colors.
The downside of the iPhone SE camera is the lack of night mode. This restriction looks especially strange given that it has long been in the most budget Android smartphones.
When shooting in low light conditions, the device is seriously behind the older models, the photos are noisy, the detail drops noticeably on both the main and the front cameras. I don’t know if Apple plans to add a night mode with firmware update, but this feature is really not enough for the new product.
In terms of video shooting, the new SE is deprived only of the lack of the ability to write in HDR at 4K / 60fps, the expanded dynamic range works only at 30 frames per second. But in general, in terms of quality and video stabilization, this is by far the best smartphone in its segment.
Battery Life of Apple iPhone SE 2020 and Charging
Apple does not disclose the battery capacity, but from various videos on disassembling the device, we know that it is equipped with a 1821 mAh battery. By the standards of 2020, these are ridiculous numbers and it is a pity that Apple ignored one of the key opportunities to pump the new product.
The campaign promises autonomy "like the iPhone 8" and in practice, things are something like this. The duration of work on a single charge is highly dependent on how you use the device. If you do not get out of the browser and social networks, then the device asks for charging by 7-8 pm, but with moderate activity, it survives to the end of the day with 30% of the charge.
In general, it is felt that in terms of autonomy, SE is really the level of old 4.7-inch devices. He does not give confidence that the phone, in any case, will work the whole day, which we are used to using the latest iPhones. But if you use the original or older model with Touch ID, you won’t notice any special problems with autonomy and you’ll probably see small improvements due to standby energy efficiency provided by A13.
One way to mitigate the problem of a weak battery is to buy a fast 18W charger. It will allow you to charge the phone in half an hour to 50%, which is much faster than when using the 5 W charging included in the kit. With it, the phone charges in just 30% in 30 minutes, and a full charge cycle lasts two and a half hours.
Also, the iPhone SE 2 supports wireless charging (up to 7.5 W). You can take any cheap Qi adapter and thereby solve the issue of autonomy at work or at home. The methods are compromise - we all would prefer that the SE work for two days without recharging, but, alas, we can state a fact: the bank will become a good friend of the owners of the new SE.
