How to use a smartphone and copy data with Broken Screen

A broken screen is a real problem for the smartphone owner. In recent years, manufacturers are trying as much as possible to increase the display area and make the device as thin as possible, sacrificing to some extent the strength. In addition, it is not always possible to "pump" information from a device through a computer without interacting with the screen.

Most often, after falling onto a hard surface, one of the following defects appears:

  • a small crack that does not interfere with the operation of the device;
  • a crack due to which part of the image disappears;
  • a large crack, the sensor completely stops responding;
  • visually everything is in order, but the touch buttons are not pressed.

Ideally, it is advisable to change the screen, but if right now it is impossible due to various reasons, there are ways to continue using the smartphone. But it is worth noting that the following life hacks are only an emergency temporary measure.

How to use a smartphone if the screen sensor is damaged:

  1. If at least part of the picture is displayed, connect the mouse and keyboard. To do this, you will need a USB OTG adapter.
  2. If the screen is "dead", connect an external display to the smartphone.
  3. For iPhone, use Bluetooth accessories. If you haven’t previously connected a wireless mouse to your smartphone, some difficulties may arise. Fortunately, using the new Bluetooth keyboard is less of a problem.
  4. Try setting up remote access to your smartphone through a computer.

To copy data from a broken smartphone, connect the device to a PC or laptop using a USB cable and copy everything you need to any convenient folder on your computer.

The second option is to make a backup on Android: "Settings"> "System"> "Advanced"> "Backup". If you have an iPhone, you can easily make a copy in iTunes or iCloud: Settings> iCloud> Backup iCloud. To recover data on the new iPhone, select the option “Restore data from iCloud” in the “Settings”. In both cases, this is necessary so that when you switch to a new smartphone (if you do not repair the old one), you do not lose contacts, saved events in the calendar and other valuable data.
